Post Grad Work Permit

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is a document issued by the Canadian government that allows international students who have graduated from a Canadian designated learning institution (DLI) to work in Canada for up to three years. The PGWP is a great way for international students to gain valuable work experience in Canada and potentially even qualify for permanent residence.

To be eligible for a PGWP, international students must have completed a program of study at a Canadian DLI that is at least eight months long and leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate  in some selected disciplines for undergrads. All Masters students are eligible as long as they have obtained their credential in a DLI. They must also apply for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving their final grades.

The length of the PGWP is determined by the length of the program of study. For example, if the program was two years long, the PGWP would be valid for up to three years.

During the period of the PGWP, international students are allowed to work for any employer in Canada, without the need for a separate Work Permit. They are also able to change employers and work in any industry or occupation, as long as the work is legal and meets the requirements of the PGWP program.
